Root Canal Treatment (RCT)
Teeth that have a “dead” or “dying” nerve (known as pulp) or an abscess can cause a great deal of pain.
This is when root canal therapy can be done to fix the pain and save the tooth. It is a detailed treatment that involves removing the unhealthy bacteria inside the tooth and pulp, so the tooth can remain healthy and functioning in the mouth.
Common symptoms associated with a damaged nerve include;
• Hot and/or cold sensitivity
• Spontaneous throbbing
• Pain or tenderness on biting
• Pus or an abscess near the tooth (often associated with bad taste)
• Facial swelling or swelling of the gum around the tooth
• Darkening of the tooth
Two or three appointments may be required to complete root canal treatment to ensure the tooth has the best chances of survival. If root canal is not completed, there is a risk of further discomfort or abscess formation, ultimately risking the life of the tooth.
After root canal treatment, a tooth may become brittle and more susceptible to fracture. To ensure the best prognosis and longevity of the tooth a crown is often recommended (click on the link to find out more).
Multiple tests are carried out by our experienced dentist to ensure that a correct diagnosis is made and appropriate treatment is carried out.
At Goondiwindi Family Dental we use advanced modern equipment to ensure the procedure is as fast and comfortable for our patients whilst maintaining high quality care. Our caring staff will make sure you are comfortable and relaxed during each procedure and will discuss all your individual treatment needs with you prior to starting any treatment.
